Cancer, a heterogeneous disease, causes around 10 million deaths worldwide. Advanced cancer treatment including chemotherapy is approaching towards personalized medicine. Extensive cellular and molecular biology studies indicate the necessity of personalized treatment, even in case of immunotherapy. Apart from therapy, cancer prevention has utmost importance in inhibiting the initiation and development of cancer. Bioactive phytochemicals from dietary and/or medicinal plant sources have been shown to be highly effective against cancer initiation, development, progression, and metastasis over the decades.
Cancer prevention is one of the emerging field of research than its cure. Many phytochemicals are being investigated for cancer prevention research. Intervention of phytochemicals mainly related to non-toxic, affordable and specific to cancer cells are still in demand. East-Asia, specially India and China contains several biodiversity hotspot, which are the source of many bioactive phytochemicals. Researcher have being involved in exploring them against different health disorders including cancer. Over the decades numerous lead compounds have been isolated from the medicinal plants and being used to treat several diseases including cancer. Not only the medicinal plants, but food and other dietary supplements contain bioactive molecules which play substantial roles in the cancer prevention.
This Research Topic will provide a forum for scientists actively involved in cancer prevention studies. The focus will be on recent knowledge of phytochemicals (dietary/medicinal plants) which are being investigated in such studies and thereby future perspectives of the roles of phytochemicals in cancer prevention. Both Original research and Review articles with recent scientific knowledge in this area along with clinical advancements will be accepted.
