Valvular heart disease affects more than half of the population over the age of 65, and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Echocardiography is the mainstay of diagnosis, grading and follow-up, but multimodality imaging using cardiac computed tomography, cardiovascular magnetic resonance and nuclear imaging offers further phenotyping of etiology, severity as well as more detailed capture of the up- and downstream effects of valvular pathologies. In particular myocardial remodelling before and reverse remodelling after intervention has gained major clinical and research interest. Furthermore, structural valve intervention by percutaneous techniques (including transcatheter aortic, mitral, pulmonary and tricuspid valve interventions) employ ever greater use of multimodality imaging.
In this Research Topic, we are looking for review articles and original research articles that address the current and future use as well as advances in multimodality imaging for diagnosis, intervention and follow-up of valvular heart disease.
