The focus of this Research Topic is how evidence-based strategies and approaches can be used to develop and successfully implement education of health professionals in genomic medicine. Educating health professionals about genetics has been an interest within the genetics professional community before even the completion of the Human Genome Projects at the start of the 21st century. Given the rapid pace of advancement of technologies (eg genetic and genomic testing) and the increasing integration of genomics into clinical care, and despite perceived lack of relevance by some non-genetics health professionals, the successful implementation of genomic medicine will require new and innovative strategies both for education and system change.
We welcome manuscripts presenting evidence-based approaches in genomics education in areas such as educational needs of health care providers in genomic medicine, emerging and successful educational activities, including their development, implementation, evaluation strategies and educational outcomes. Manuscripts may include Original Research, Methods, Systematic Reviews, Mini Reviews, Policies and Practice Reviews, and Perspectives. We strongly recommend an abstract be submitted prior to submission of the full article.
