With the coming of the modern and aging society, the prevalence and occurrence of numerous neurological disorders has been increasing gradually. These disorders include cerebral vascular accident, traumatic brain injury, occupation-induced peripheral nerve injury, stress-mediated cognitive dysfunction, metabolic or infectious neuropathy, and a variety of age-related neurodegenerative deficiencies. Over the past few decades, limited advances have been made through research in neuroscience that can improve the outcomes of such neuronal disorders. Therefore, new drugs or biomedical agents with higher bioactivity and safety profile must be developed by multidisciplinary cooperation to enhance the therapeutic efficacy and to improve the patients’ life quality.
In this Research Topic, we provide a multidisciplinary platform that offer researchers dedicated in this field to demonstrate their novel strategies against different neuronal disorders or to improve cognitive functions. These strategies may include but are not limited to, re-purposing certain antibiotics for treating neurodegenerative diseases, developing anti-oxidative water by nano-biomaterials, deriving anti-inflammatory agents from human platelet lysate, utilizing olfactory stimulation to correct emotional phenotypes, or repairing peripheral nerve injury with advanced neurotherapy, etc. The innovative approaches aimed in solving the deficits that are likely to have neurological origins (such as abnormal articulation or oropharyngeal dysphagia) are also welcome.
