Steady progress has been made in understanding the fundamental interactions between cancer and the host immune system and recent exciting progress has been made in translating this work into new therapies for cancer. A diverse array of immunotherapies have now entered the clinic, spanning monoclonal antibodies, immunotoxins, bispecific antibodies, T cell based therapies, tumor vaccines, cytokine therapies, NK cell therapy and genetically engineered lymphocyte therapy. The challenge facing the field of pediatric oncology is to apply these fundamental principles and emergingtechnologies to the treatment of cancer in children and young adults. The goal of this Frontiers Research Topic is to provide a forum for reporting basic, preclinical and clinical studies that provide new insights into tumor immunology as it pertains to pediatric cancer as well as translational and clinical studies of emerging immunotherapies targeting childhood cancer. We welcome basic, translational and clinical studies as well as scholarly reviews and commentaries focused on this topic.
