Identifying novel targets and biomarkers are essential components in drug developments and treatments, particularly in this era of targeted therapies. Tremendous efforts are being made to interpret the mechanisms of cancer development with the aim of promoting novel drugs discovery.
Although some new drug targets and biomarkers have been successfully identified, the heterogeneity of cancers requires that a vaster array of drugs and biomarkers need to be developed in order to achieve individualized treatment options. Recent technological and analytical advances in biology and medicine have made it possible to rapidly elucidate the mechanisms of cancer initiation and progression and identify new targets, thereby providing great opportunities for the development of new, clinically effective anticancer drugs and biomarkers.
This Research Topic issue on ‘Novel targets and biomarkers in solid tumors’; will be devoted to scientific excellence in the fields of cancer pharmacology and therapeutics. The objective is to generate a collaborative discussion contributing to the future direction of pharmaceutical drug development and therapeutic options. The most relevant study will be those focus on therapeutic targets, and diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers of solid tumors. We welcome high-quality, original papers in both clinical and experimental research, solicited and unsolicited reviews, editorial correspondence and commentaries on scientific issues.
