Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression encompasses a variety of cellular processes that determine changes in RNA abundance, localization and function in response to physiological and environmental cues. Numerous molecular mechanisms are at play, including mRNA splicing, editing, decay, transport and translation. This Research Topic will cover two different aspects that highlight the key role of RNA regulation in normal cell function and organism physiology.
The first part will gather the most recent and relevant discoveries on RNA regulation during organismal development and adaptation; including spatial and temporal patterning, cell differentiation, cellular/tissue/ organism polarization, and fertility.
The second part will focus on the major findings on RNA dysregulation during pathological conditions, such as cancer, infections, developmental defects and neurological disorders.
Finally, we will comment on the development of state-of-the-art experimental and analytical tools to investigate the mechanisms of RNA regulation in healthy and diseased states. We welcome Original Research papers, Reviews, Mini-reviews, Opinions, Hypothesis, Theory papers and Methods papers.
