This contamination affects public health around the world. Bioremediation of the polluted water and soil via microbial bio-reduction processes is an efficient way to remove these pollutants. For example the reduction of perchlorate to chloride and water, nitrate to nitrogen gas or Cr6+ to Cr3+.
This Research Topic will describe the latest novel scientific findings on newly discovered metabolic pathways, the genome structure of novel oxyanion reducing bacteria, community interactions during bioreduction and the integration of the microbial process for water and soil bioremediation.
In particular, this Research Topic will explore newly described oxyanion reducing bacteria and electron donors, recently discovered methane oxidation linked to oxyanion reduction, the metagenomes of the communities involved and finally the new bioelectrical and membrane process for water treatment.
