With advances in systemic therapies that do not cross the blood-brain barrier, the burden of intracranial metastatic disease (IMD) as a complication of cancer is expected to increase. In this Research Topic, we propose to review the basic biology of IMD and the implications of this biology on management of brain metastasis. Topics will include discussion of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Current standards of care and future goals will be articulated.
