Obesity is the most prevalent chronic disease in the pediatric population. Despite continued efforts to prevent obesity in the population, obesity rates continue to climb, and there has been a dramatic increase in severe obesity (body mass index >/=40). With the current concerns about obesity and comorbid conditions on the health and quality of life, we should have treatment options that serve to reduce this burden on the patient population to improve morbidity and mortality. We need treatment options that are intensive, prescriptive, or deliverable in multidisciplinary settings (i.e. family , school, and medical environment).
