Toward and Beyond Human-Level AIAs a consequence of the impressive success of Deep Learning systems and of substantial progress in brain physiology, there arises a natural question of whether the time for “complete,” human mind-level, Artificial Intelligence is approaching. This possibility seems even more realistic, as the abilities of artificial computing systems from 2008 onward, with respect to their memory capacity and information handling power, have attained the estimated abilities of the human brain.
Meanwhile, there are still multiple doubts about the mere possibility of the emergence of anything resembling the human mind in artificial technologies. The purpose of this Research Topic is thus to provide a platform for work directly targeted at composing human-level AI. The field itself is still new to serious research studies, although many speculative papers have been published on the subject since the 1950’s. The time seems ripe now to announce the creation of human-level AI as a concrete objective for current science and technology. As such, we welcome reviews, original research, and short communications on (but not limited to) the following subjects:
- system architectures of high-level AI;
- descriptions of concrete high-level AI systems and keynote subsystems;
- detailed methodology for creating high-level AI systems;
- papers composed by high-level AI systems;
- analyses of the limitations of current technologies and paradigms in approaching "human-level AI"
We will not limit the scope of the submissions to only successful attempts to implement human-level AI. However, the targeted aim of all papers in this Research Topic should coincide with its title.
