In contemporary society, adolescence is a critical phase for cultivating habits that sustain long-term health and personal well-being, especially against the backdrop of increased urbanization and digitization. There is a growing concern about the declining physical activities among adolescents, which is often accompanied by a rise in health-risk behaviors such as substance abuse, poor dietary choices, and a sedentary lifestyle. These behaviors pose significant threats to both physical and mental health, making the enhancement of physical education and exercise habits in schools crucial.
This Research Topic aims to systematically explore how physical activity influences adolescent behaviors and reduces health risks. It will address how engagement in physical activities correlates with risky behaviors and assess the impact of structured physical education and extracurricular sports in promoting healthy lifestyles and improving self-control. The focus is also on understanding the psychological ways in which physical activity can boost mental health and lessen the likelihood of engaging in harmful behaviors. The goal is to develop and validate interventions that utilize physical activity as a fundamental resource for enhancing mental health and decreasing risky behaviors among youths.
To gather further insights into this topic, we welcome contributions that include, but are not limited to:
o Epidemiological studies on physical activity and its ties to health risk behaviors in adolescents.
o Assessment of school-based and after-school physical programs' success in reducing risk behaviors.
o Psychological and neuroscientific studies on how physical activity affects self-control and mental health.
o Qualitative analyses of adolescent perceptions on physical activity and its effects on their lifestyle.
o Comprehensive reviews and meta-analyses that synthesize existing data on the impact of physical activity on adolescent risk behaviors.
The scope of this Research Topic encompasses original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and scholarly discussions regarding the effects of physical activity on mitigating negative behaviors in the adolescent demographic.
