Sedentary behaviors are a leading cause of preventable mortality in developed countries. We mainly have sedentary behaviors at work. Therefore, sedentary behaviors must be considered as an occupational risk, and must be a major concern both for companies/managers and physicians/health researchers.
However, sedentary behaviors at work were only studied recently over the past decade and many aspects are still poorly studied. The aim of this Research Topic on “Sedentary behaviors at work” is to provide a multidisciplinary focus on this area of research. We aim to give the reader a global overview of sedentary behaviors at work through addressing various aspects of this, such as:
- consequences of sedentary behaviors at work, both medical and economic, and both for workers and companies,
- understanding biological mechanisms involved in sedentary behaviors at work or changes induced by interventions to limit sedentary behaviors at work,
- understanding psychosocial mechanisms and clues for effective strategies to prevent sedentary behaviors at work,
- workplace environment, as well as geographic and urban strategies for preventing sedentary behaviors at work,
- efficient measures of sedentary behaviors at work are needed, as well as innovative approach to analyze those data.
Therefore, all kind of articles could be submitted such as randomized controlled trials, reviews, observational studies, theoretical studies, or case reports. Contributions would be welcome from researcher working from public health, medicine, psychology, physiology, urban design, economics, mathematics, or engineering.
