Catalysis not only plays a pivotal role in various industries but also is demonstrating important and ever increasing applications in the area of environment control. With the development of society, more and more environmental issues have emerged and catalysis has been proven to be one of the solutions to these issues. In this regard, environmental catalysis somehow drives the advances in the whole area of catalysis. Historically, environmental catalysis mainly refers to the catalytic technologies for VOC (volatile organic compound) conversion and removal of NOx or sulfur compounds from mobile and stationary sources. In recent years, the research activities in this area have been expanded because of the emerged new problems and questions such as the treatment of liquid and solid waste, and the indoor air pollution. In addition, the sustainability needs have urged the green catalysts-based chemical processes without the generation of by-products using catalysts for energy-efficient catalytic technologies. The related processes have attracted much attention of the researchers working in the area of environmental catalysis. Especially, exploring novel metal-free catalysts for replacing the widely used transition metal or metal oxide catalysts is of great interest to the catalysis community because of the facts that (i) the metal catalysts may cause secondary pollution and (ii) many metallic resources on the Earth are becoming scarce. On the other hand, reducing the environmental impact from the use or disposal of catalysts has also been extensively studied due to the excessive consumption of the catalysts.
