About this Research Topic
Yet, despite the progress made, crucial gaps in our knowledge persist. How exactly does ferroptosis intersect with other types of cell death? What are the specific markers and effectors of ferroptosis in different cell types? How can we precisely manipulate ferroptosis in cellular models and what anticipations can we build from such experiments regarding possible therapeutics?
This Research Topic aims to collect the latest advances in our understanding of ferroptosis and seeks to increase our knowledge of the cellular and molecular machinery behind this form of programmed cell death. It will probe into the links between ferroptosis and other forms of cell death, its regulation and manipulation for potential therapeutic advantage as well as its role in various pathophysiological conditions.
We invite submissions focused on, but not exclusively limited to, the following themes:
1. Molecular processes and signaling pathways involved in ferroptosis: elaborating the intricacies of iron metabolism, lipid peroxidation, antioxidative defense, and their regulation.
2. Intersection of ferroptosis with other cell death forms: investigating the cross-talk, synergies, and diversions.
3. Identification and characterization of specific ferroptosis markers and effectors across different cell types and biological scenarios.
4. Role of ferroptosis in various pathologies: from cancer and neurodegeneration to heart, cutaneous and kidney diseases.
5. Manipulating ferroptosis for therapeutic purposes: exploring the strategies to induce or inhibit ferroptosis and their potential biomedical applications.
6. Advanced technologies and methodologies for studying ferroptosis at a cellular and molecular level.
We look forward to receiving submissions that expand the ken of ferroptosis research, uncover mechanistic insights, and foster scientific debates to move our understanding of this critical, regulated cell death modality forward.
