Immunity and Inflammation are involved in a variety of diseases and biological processes. Neuroinflammatory signal transduction plays a protective role during development and tissue repair after injury; chronic neuroinflammation is associated with neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, etc. Recent studies have found that neuroinflammation involves perioperative neurological complications, including perioperative stroke, delirium, cognitive function changes, chronic pain, etc. Surgeries or anesthesia may potentially accelerate the deterioration of pre-existing mental disorders or present symptoms resembling mental disorders due to the disruption of normal brain function during the perioperative period. Currently, it is not possible to distinguish the causal relationship between these two, but central inflammation response may be a common pathogenic factor. We hope the collection of articles clarifies the occurrence mechanism of neuroimmune function related to neuropsychiatric disorders and perioperative neurological complications. Identify new research approaches to produce more effective treatment strategies, whether novel preventive treatments, peripheral biomarkers, or changes in imaging that can be used to identify diseases earlier. Provide further support for this pivotal goal with the latest developments in multiple disciplines. In this Research Topic, we wanted to address how the immune system responses (innate and/or adaptive responses) and neuroinflammation regulate mental disorders and perioperative neurological complications. Specifically, we are interested in studying the latest mechanisms and treatments of neuropsychiatric diseases such as schizophrenia、bipolar disorder, depression, Major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, perioperative stroke, delirium, cognitive function changes, chronic pain and the diagnosis and treatment of various neurological complications during the perioperative period. To this end, we welcome Original Research and Review articles focusing on different aspects of inflammatory and neuropsychiatric diseases. We welcome reviews, original research and clinical trials, basic research, translational research, including but not limited to:1. The relationship between neuroinflammation and the development of neuropsychiatric diseases such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders, cognitive dysfunction, and chronic pain.2. In vivo and in vitro study of immune inflammatory response in chronic pain and following general anesthesia and surgical operations.3. Strategies to detect, prevent, and treat neuroinflammation in different contests.
