MicroRNAs are non-coding RNAs that regulate developmental and physiological events by modulating gene expression, primarily at the post-transcriptional level. Several lines of evident suggest that microRNAs are major players in Endocrinology. First, microRNAs have hormone-like activities. They can be secreted from cells, enter circulation, reach target cells to regular their activities. Second, microRNAs regulate hormone secretion. Third, they modulate receptors and signaling networks that mediate the functions of hormones, growth factors, and cytokines. Finally, hormones have been reported to regulate the expression level of microRNAs.
