lncRNAs are a class of non-coding RNA involved in various regulatory functions such as transcriptional, post-transcriptional and translation regulation, post-translational modification and, above all, they have an important role in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression. LncRNAs have been broadly identified as key players in chromatin remodeling, histone modification and DNA methylation, directly or as interactors with other effector proteins. It is well known that the onset of cancer is often associated precisely with aberrant epigenetic modifications.
The goal of this research topic is to identify the involvement of lncRNAs in the epigenome reorganization in the onset of cancer. To do this, it would be appropriate to study the epigenetic alterations (degree of DNA methylation, open chromatin regions) associated with various oncological pathologies, both solid and blood cancers, and to understand whether a specific lncRNA may be associated or related to them. Furthermore, it will be necessary to identify any regulators of this process to evaluate any therapies aimed at reducing or re-activating the SUMOylation process according to the identified target.
