About this Research Topic
Plant metabolism lies on an intricate network of genes, proteins, and metabolites continuously responding to environmental changes. The development of high-throughput technologies (for DNA sequencing and for the quantification of transcripts, proteins, and metabolites) and bioinformatics allows the application of network science to understand the regulation of plant metabolism.
Changes in gene expression not always translate into a similar protein accumulation pattern. This is a limitation of transcriptomics analyses, which provide us with a partial picture of the network at play. To fully understand how plants respond to environmental changes, we need to develop new approaches and tools to better integrate proteomics and metabolomics data with transcriptomics information.
This Research Topic aims at bringing together scientists from various academic disciplines to improve the integration of omics information, with the goal to further our understanding of plant metabolic networks. We particularly welcome manuscripts addressing:
- the integration of proteomics and metabolomics data
- the development of new software and statistical methods for systems biology analysis
- the integration of omics data to understand plant biology
- the integration of omics in plant-pathogen interactions
- the integration of omics data in plant response to environmental changes
We welcome the following article types: Original Research, Perspective, and Methods.
Keywords: Omics data integration, proteomics, metabolomics, plant metabolism
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
