The associations between eating behaviors (e.g., binge eating, restrictive eating, disordered eating) and mindfulness (e.g., mindful eating) have increasingly entered the arena of eating disorders and obesity treatment. Data suggest that some mindfulness-based interventions (e.g., mindfulness meditation, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindful self-compassion, and mindful eating) can reduce problematic eating behavior and promote weight regulation, though some data have not corroborated these associations.
The aim of the “Mindfulness and Eating Behavior” Research Topic is to bring together findings from data linking mindfulness practices with eating behaviors that impact weight regulation, appetite, food cravings, and other health-related measures within disordered and healthy eating. This aim should further our understanding for whom and for what types of problematic eating behavior different types of mindfulness interventions are most effective.
We are happy to accept manuscripts that examine the effects of intervention or experimental studies that examine the intersection of mindfulness practices and eating behavior. We are also content to receive reviews or meta-analyses, as well as opinions and commentaries in this area.
