Coronaviruses (CoVs) that pose a significant threat to livestock and poultry include a-genus coronavirus (PEDV, TGEV, SADS-CoV, etc.), ß-genus coronavirus (PHEV), d-genus coronavirus (PDCoV) and ?-genus coronavirus (IBV). Currently, the prevention and control of PEDV, IBV, and other CoVs mainly depend on vaccine-induced immunity. However, the existing vaccines face challenges in providing long-term protection, and cross-protection against different epidemic strains remains limited. In particular, the rapid viral genome mutations contribute to frequent breakthroughs in existing vaccine protection, causing substantial economic losses. Confronted with the challenges of complex epidemic prevention and control, there is an urgent need for breakthroughs in the basic theoretical research on the CoVs invasion, replication, and pathogenic mechanism, as well as the practical application of this research in developing prevention and control strategies.
This Research Topic aims to gather Original Research and Review articles that focus on basic research (invasion and replication, infection and pathogenicity, immune escape, etc.) and product development of prevention and control (vaccines, antiviral drugs, diagnostic reagents, etc.).
