About this Research Topic
Each year new approaches, concepts and treatments are introduced in the field of gastrointestinal and surgical oncology. These approaches are required to push the boundaries and limitations for complex issues that physicians and patients face during treatment. Unique ideas are necessary to find a potential solution to an unconventional and persistent medical problem.
Some of the major limitations in GI-Surgery are related to:
Peritoneal Metastasis, invasive unresectable cancer diseases, short bowel syndrome, mesenteric artery stenosis, severe peritonitis and its related complications. This Special Edition intends to provide the option to present new and innovative approaches to these problems in abdominal surgery.
We especially welcome, but not limited to, original articles, case reports and short commentaries on:
- Peritoneal metastasis and intraperitoneal chemotherapy
- New surgical approaches, devices and drug delivery concepts
- Management of invasive, unresectable cancer diseases
- New approaches and concepts for short bowel syndrome
- Potential solutions and novel management of mesenteric artery stenosis
- Severe Peritonitis and new ideas in the management of related complications
