The World Dental Federation (FDI) policy statement in 2016 advocated evidence-based caries-control measures for managing dental caries. The caries management philosophy has shifted from the traditional surgical manners to minimal intervention dentistry. Minimal intervention dentistry aims to extend the longevity of natural teeth and places the nonrestorative approaches as a priority.
The editors for this Research Topic welcome manuscripts that investigates the strategies or practice for caries prevention and management with the principle of minimal intervention dentistry, including:
(i) early caries detection and risk assessment
(ii) remineralization of demineralized enamel and dentine
(iii) optimal caries preventive measures
(iv) minimally invasive operative interventions and
(v) repair rather than replacement of restorations
This Research Topic welcomes laboratory research, epidemiological studies, clinical trials, case report and review papers on the prevention and management of dental caries with minimal intervention philosophy.
