Brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases represent the two most common disorders in human brain. Despite the significant progress in the last decade, both of them continue to be the main causes of a disproportionate level of morbidity and mortality around the world. Identifying and exploring the novel molecular pathological features of brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases may not only help define the disease pathogenesis, but also lay the groundwork for the development of new diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In the field of brain tumors, the new 2021 WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System, has introduced major changes that advance the role of molecular diagnostics in CNS tumor classification, thus broadening the diagnostic spectrum and prognostic factors. In the field of neurodegeneration, although the etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are far from being elucidated, recent studies have provided important and new meaningful findings into the pathogenesis and molecular pathobiology of the diseases.This Research Topic aims to present the advances in molecular pathology of neurooncological and neurodegenerative disorders, and ultimately provides new insights into their diagnosis and treatment. We will focus on novel insights, recent developments, latest discoveries, current challenges and future perspectives in the above two fields. We will explore their updated molecular pathogenesis at a variety of levels ranging from molecular, cellular, structural and functional ones. We will also explore the biomarkers and techniques that are useful for diagnostics, prognostics and therapeutics. Considering the increasing application of multi-omics technology in the identification and characterization of molecular features of human diseases, studies in relation to multi-omics neuropathology of brain tumors and neurodegeneration disease are highly welcomed. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:- Molecular pathology of brain tumors, especially glioma;- Pathogenesis and molecular pathway of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease;- Biomarkers for early screening, diagnosis, progression monitoring or treatment of the above-mentioned diseases;- Molecular or histo-molecular studies based on multi-omics techniques that have pioneered the neuro-oncology or neurodegeneration field are highly welcomed.Publications should be scientific, innovative, and published online after strict peer review.
