Background

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a significant cause of morbidity and mortality globally, despite advances in understanding and managing traditional risk factors like hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 2 diabetes. In the European community alone, cardiovascular-related deaths make up nearly half of all fatalities annually. This persistent health threat emphasizes the need for ongoing research to find additional preventive measures that can help reduce these alarming statistics.

This Research Topic aims to explore the potential of early screening and treatment of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia (IR/Hyperins) as a strategy for preventing cardiovascular diseases. Although traditionally linked with metabolic syndrome and diabetes, IR/Hyperins should be also considered an independent risk factor for CVDs. It affects even those who are of normal or underweight, making it a critical but often overlooked issue. Addressing this could provide a critical lever in reducing CVD incidence, given the role of insulin in various body functionalities, including its impact on the cardiovascular system. Elevated insulin levels contribute to conditions like endothelial dysfunction, vascular complications, and cardiac remodeling with consequent chronic heart failure, all of which are precursors to increased healthcare spending and more severe cardiovascular outcomes.

To gather further insights into this complex interrelation, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Mechanisms linking IR/Hyperins with cardiovascular health outcomes.
• Advanced screening techniques for early detection of IR/Hyperins.
• Comparative effectiveness of interventions for managing IR/Hyperins.
• Impact of lifestyle modifications on IR/Hyperins and subsequent cardiovascular risk.
• Longitudinal studies on the outcomes of early IR/Hyperins interventions on cardiovascular health.

Note: Submit your original research, review articles, case studies, and clinical trial results to help expand our understanding of this crucial topic.
