About this Research Topic
We have achieved broad knowledge in all the separate manifestations of atopy. However, we need to have a better understanding of the critical steps in the onset and the mechanisms of the atopic march and put the puzzle together to investigate the original triggers and the subsequent cascade of events. This knowledge is urgently required to develop strategies for the prevention and treatment of atopic diseases.
Suitable themes for manuscripts include but are not limited to:
● What is (are) the triggering factor(s) that ignite the atopic march?
● Role of Epidermal Barrier Dysfunction, Transcutaneous Sensitization, Filaggrin, and Microbiome Alteration in the initiation of atopic dermatitis.
● Causes of epidermal barrier dysfunction: possible role of textile dyes in barrier damage.
● What is the relationship and common denominator(s) in the different diseases of the atopic march?
● Investigate further the sequence of events leading to this relationship.
● Are mast cells the link between all diseases of the atopic march?
● Investigate genetic associations and polymorphisms leading to higher susceptibility to atopic march.
● Is the final stage of the atopic march autoimmunity? BACH2 gene and other markers.
● Animal models for the study of atopic march.
