In the new era of therapeutic approaches, biocompatible and biotechnological molecules are taking the stage, instead of chemicals that are either natural or synthetic but are foreign to our bodies. Thanks to the pioneering studies in molecular and cellular biology, we have been able to utilize nucleic acids, peptides, antibodies, and other biotechnological products for therapeutic purposes. Immunotherapy exploits these technologies to fight against cancer, autoimmune diseases, as well as allergic and inflammatory disorders. The central focus of this article collection is the utilization of biocompatible and biotechnological tools to manipulate immune cells or the immune system itself for our benefit.
As part of this Research Topic, we are looking for pioneering scientists to share their knowledge and studies in this area, to further enlighten the working minds in the field. Original research and Review articles are welcomed that present novel solutions and approaches for immunotherapy applications. Studies that focus on the utilization of nucleic acids, peptides, vectors, antibodies, and proteins as well as their delivery vehicles either in a liposome or another biocompatible form are especially in the scope of this article collection. We aim to present the latest research in the field of immunotherapy to further expand our vision and generate greater interest in this field to develop innovative treatment strategies for cancer and autoimmune disorders.
In this Research Topic, we welcome manuscripts with a research focus on the following themes:
• Biocompatible and Biotechnological Tools in Cancer Immunotherapy.
• Immunomodulatory agents that can alter the tumor microenvironment for the proper functioning of immune cells.
• Non-coding RNAs specific to cancer, which determine tumor cell-specific molecular targets.
• mRNA-based Immunotherapy Approaches.
• Molecular modulation of the immune system cells against tumor cells.
• Immunotherapy against Autoimmune Disorders.
• Antigen determination in Autoimmune Disorders.
• Biocompatible reagents for immunomodulation.
• Liposomes and other biocompatible vehicles for the delivery of Immunotherapy agents.
• Novel mechanisms for efficient loading of the liposomes and their derivatives with drug molecules or biotechnological tools such as mRNA or siRNA.
• Advanced targeting methods with antibodies or other means for specific delivery of the drug-loaded liposomes and their derivatives to the specific tissue of interest in case of cancer or autoimmune disorder.
Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by robust and relevant validation (clinical cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are not within the scope of this topic.
