Tight regulation of cell division is critical throughout life for normal developmental processes, tissue regeneration, aging, and recovery from cellular damage. Abnormal development, aging-related disease, or carcinogenesis may result from aberrant cell cycle control. Drugs targeting different phases of the cell cycle may be leveraged for various therapeutic purposes, such as synthetic lethality associated with checkpoint inhibitor use in p53 null cancer cells and emerging senotherapeutics targeting senescent cells with potential anti-aging benefits.
In this Research Topic, we aim to highlight novel pharmacologic agents, mechanisms, and clinical applications of existing therapeutics targeting cell cycle modulation. We invite researchers from all backgrounds to a rich interdisciplinary discussion related to the fundamental process of cell division that underlies development and disease.
Primary research articles, reviews, and systematic reviews are welcome. Submissions are encouraged, but not limited to, the following topics:
1. Applications of drugs targeting senescent cell anti-apoptotic pathways with implications for cancer treatment and anti-aging
2. Novel mechanisms and applications of cell cycle agents to promote tissue regeneration
3. Insights into modulation of stem cell differentiation for development and regeneration
4. Pleiotropic effects of cell cycle regulatory agents and mechanisms to mediate unforeseen consequences
5. Cellular basis of multi-drug oncologic treatment plans involving cell cycle modulators
