About this Research Topic
The objective of this Collection is to expand and consolidate the existing knowledge on cognitive and motor skills in sports, with a specific emphasis on the aforementioned studies. By bringing together multidisciplinary perspectives, the aim is to deepen our understanding of the complex interplay between cognitive processes and motor skills in sports performance. Additionally, this special issue seeks to promote the development of innovative approaches and interventions for enhancing cognitive and motor skills in athletes.
This research topic invites authors to contribute to the advancement of knowledge on cognitive and motor skills in sports, with a focus on the studies mentioned above. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Study of individual differences in cognitive and motor skills and their implications for sports performance and talent identification;
• investigation of the cognitive processes underlying motor skill acquisition and execution in sports, such as attention, perception, anticipation, and decision-making;
• development and validation of sport-specific tasks and assessments to evaluate cognitive and motor skills in athletes;
• analysis of the interplay of cognitive and motor functions during the execution of sports skills via dual-task studies;
• exploration of interventions, training programs, and technologies aimed at enhancing cognitive and motor skills in athletes across different sports disciplines;
• analysis of gaze behavior and its impact on social interactions among athletes in various sports contexts;
• examination of the relationship between working memory and soccer performance, exploring its influence on decision-making, tactical awareness, and game intelligence.
Contributions may include original research articles, theoretical frameworks, systematic reviews, and methodological advancements that contribute to the understanding and application of cognitive and motor skills in sports.
This collection seeks to foster collaboration and welcomes submissions from researchers, sports psychologists, cognitive scientists, motor control experts, and practitioners involved in the study and application of cognitive and motor skills in sports.
