With life expectancy increasing, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are on the rise, having a considerable impact on quality of life and healthy life years. It is therefore essential to combat the risk factors for NCDs. Among the modifiable risk factors, some are fairly well known (poor diet, physical inactivity, etc.), while others, such as oral health literacy or dysbiosis of the oral microbiota, remain relatively poorly understood.
This Research Topic aims to (i) quantitatively and qualitatively characterize the oral microbiota of healthy and diseased patients; (ii) characterize the level of oral health literacy of healthy and diseased patients; (iii) study oral health promotion programs to combat the onset of oral diseases.
The Research Topic will be further developed through the selection of high-quality scientific articles dedicated to the study and characterization of the oral microbiota, oral literacy and its impact on oral and systemic health.
Themes include, but are not limited to:
- Analysis and description of the oral microbiota of healthy or diseased patients
- Link between oral dysbiosis and non-communicable diseases
