Art and Psychology have influenced each other since long time: psychoanalysis, visual perception and artistic representation inspiring data visualization are just few examples of it. The challenges of our time call for an increasingly constant confrontation to overcome barriers and contamination between different cultures and languages in order to create a common knowledge. Examples of this kind of shared mission are experiences with conceptual artists at the SETI Institute or the artistic department at the CERN: scientists and artists working together to set advanced metaverses and generative art evidence how this dialogue can be very fruitful and open new windows for data and models interpretations.
The aim of this Research Topic is to open a systematic and successful dialogue between scientists, in particular psychologists, and artists through an interaction between quantitative and qualitative methods. Issues to be addressed in these times reflect a complexity that requires a multidisciplinary approach.
We welcome papers such as original research, systematic reviews, perspective articles on the following Topics:
- Cooperation between scientists and artists in the direction of accessibility of data on a large scale
- Interchange between artists and scientists in order to investigate the artistic experience in depth
- The encounter between art and science in the domain of artificial intelligence, generative art
- The impact of digital art on the viewer both cognitively and emotionally
- The development of the metaverse as a theme of confrontation between the two cultures and an environment of mutual encounter and exchange
