The major challenges facing humanity in this century are climate change and the depletion of natural resources which have significant global consequences for individual aspects, such as human health, the environment, and the economy. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to the application of approaches and methods aimed at reducing this environmental burden. Reducing negative environmental impacts requires a rigorous analysis of the environmental parameters of the materials we use throughout their life cycle. Another equally important factor is the knowledge of the material´s environmental impacts related to human health.
To support the reduction of environmental impacts, the European Commission has adopted an Integrated Product Strategy (IPS). Its main objective is to improve the life cycle of products. Improving the environment and human health protection by identifying products with negative environmental impacts and subsequently reducing their impacts is possible through the application of environmental assessment of materials in all their forms. This can contribute to more responsible decision-making and eco-design of sustainable products.
The aim of the current Research Topic is the dissemination of original research results, new ideas, and discovered advances in the field of environmental properties and environmental impacts of materials. Areas to be covered in this Research
The topics may include, but are not limited to:
• Environmental impacts and sustainability of materials,
• Environmental performance and safety of materials,
• Environmentally suitable building materials,
• Life cycle assessment (LCA) of materials;
• Environmental product declaration of materials;
• Advanced materials for environmental applications.
