Coal and rock in underground space have been substantially explored around the world, particularly through mineral resources and geothermal energy exploitation and geological carbon sequestration. With the depth increasing, the stress environment, solid-fluid interaction, and pore and fracture networks of underground coal and rock structures become more complex and variable, which causes associated disasters occurring more frequently.
This Research Topic aims to initiate a broader scientific discussion and facilitate a better understanding of instability mechanisms and disaster prevention of coal and rock in deep underground space.
We welcome Original Research and Review articles addressing the following themes that include, but are not limited to:
• Coal and rock disaster evolution process
• Coal and rock instability mechanisms
• Coal and rock dynamic disaster
• Coal and rock disaster prevention
• Experimental coal and rock testing
• Coal and rock fluid flow characteristics
• Coal and rock fluid interactions
• Risk identification and evaluation
• Monitoring and early warning
