Rot is a significant threat to the production, yield, and quality of plants and crops. Despite different causes, rot diseases share almost similar symptoms, which is soft, collapsed tissue formation due to disintegration of the plant cell wall structures. Causal agents include bacterial and fungal pathogens, such as Fusarium, which can infect crops at various stages of growth and is the cause of 70-80% of plant diseases.
Although many rot diseases and causal agents have been reported, research is needed to better understand the biology of the rot pathogens, determine their pathogenicity, and identify effective control measures.
This Research Topic focuses on recent developments in the identification and control methods of rot diseases in plants and crops. We are particularly interested in new developments on antifungal substances, control mechanisms, and strategies that highlight the factors responsible for rot disease in plants. This Research Topic welcomes submission of Original Research, Methods, Review, Mini Review, and Hypothesis and Theory article types.
