Recent literature has shown that there is a growing concern of equity issues in injury prevention. In particular, different socioeconomic, demographic, or geographic groups of people may sustain significantly different injury risks in injurious events. This is especially true in road safety, in which field data have shown increased traffic fatalities or serious injuries in low-income communities, people with color, elderly, people with obesity, and female occupants. Female athletes are also associated higher concussion rates than male athletes in sports. However, studies on addressing safety equity among the diverse population are limited.
The goal of this Frontiers' Research Topic is to identify, investigate, and address safety equity issues among injury prevention through multidisciplinary research studies.
Although all articles addressing safety equity issues in injury prevention are welcome, the following topics are given higher priority:
1) Innovative field data analysis for identifying equity concerns in injury prevention
2) Studies on identifying and investigating the root causes of safety equity issues
3) New injury assessment tools accounting for human diversity
4) New methods or safety technologies that can address the different needs from different groups of people
5) Studies on evaluating effectiveness of different policies, technologies, and strategies on addressing safety equity
