Emerging adults (ages 18-30 years old) with type 1 diabetes face their own unique set of challenges when trying to achieve and maintain optimal diabetes management. While research about emerging adults with type 1 diabetes is on the rise, there is still a paucity of literature on the differing needs of these individuals, and the unique developmental, social, and emotional issues they face during this developmental period.
The goal of this Research Topic is to gather cutting-edge literature about potential interventions and solutions that may be able to help overcome the challenges faced by emerging adults with type 1 diabetes in one publication. This publication can then serve as a resource for clinicians and researchers working with emerging adults with type 1 diabetes.
Themes include but are not limited to:
• Competing priorities for emerging adults with type 1 diabetes
• Financial literacy and stressors
• Health insurance literacy
• Social issues and support
• Psych/mental health interventions
• Diabetes technology
• Digital health technology including apps and telehealth services
• Successful transition programs and/or best practices
Any topic related to overcoming challenges faced by emerging adults with type 1 diabetes will be taken into consideration. All articles accepted by Frontiers are encouraged.
