There has been a growing amount of research detailing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cutaneous diseases. Nonetheless, we still do not have a regulatory agency approved app or computer system being used by dermatologists (or other physicians that could be confronted with challenging skin lesions) in daily practice. Why is this? Where do we stand now? What is next in this field? It is time to deeply explore this theme.
To answer the questions above, this Research Topic is calling for manuscripts in all themes relating to Artificial Intelligence being, or intended to be, used for the assessment of cutaneous lesions, including either skin tumors (benign or malignant), inflammatory diseases, such as psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis, adverse drug reactions, among others.
The Research Topic will welcome the following types of article:
- Clinical trials (or protocols), utilizing decision support systems based on AI, for triage, diagnosis or management of skin lesions,
- Research exploring the use of convolutional neural network (CNN) "black box" in cutaneous lesions,
- Manuscripts exploring the usability of AI systems for skin evaluation
- Surveys with health professionals and patients on the subject of the use of AI in cutaneous lesions.
- Reviews highlighting the latest developments in AI in cutaneous diseases
