COVID-19 has been rapidly spread since December in 2019 all over the world. The causative pathogen is SARS-CoV-2 virus which belongs to the corona virus family. To date, SARS-CoV-2 has mutated repeatedly from alpha to omicron during the pandemic period. The severity and mortality are related to age, species, and underlying disease. However, the genetics of SARS-CoV-2 and the genetic backgrounds of COVID-19-associated diseases have been not fully clarified.
The goal of the research topic is to clarify the genetics of SARS-CoV-2 and the genetic backgrounds of COVID-19-associated diseases (respiratory disorders, olfactory disturbance, coagulopathy, myocardial infarction, neurological disorders) and underlying disease (cancer, immune disease, stroke, cardiovascular disease). In addition, the goal is also to clarify why the SARS-Cov-2 virus caused a global pandemic situation.
How does SARS-Cov-2 virus develop symptoms of COVID-19 and influences underlying diseases is not fully known. The scope of the Research Topic "Genetics in COVID-19" is to define the genetic mechanism of COVID-19 or COVID-19-associated diseases. The types of manuscripts include articles, reviews, mini-review, letters, and case report.
