Autoimmune diseases threaten public health and affect people's lives. A deep understanding of the features of autoimmune diseases can effectively assist in clinical practice.
Recent studies showed that the etiology and pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases are complex, such as genetic factors, malfunction of the body's immune system, and the influence of age, gender, and endocrine. It was shown that negative immune checkpoints such as CTLA-4/VISTA/PD-1/PD-L1/B7-H3/B7-H4 play a major role in the development and progression of autoimmune diseases, and that agitation of these negative immune checkpoints may also alleviate the effects of autoimmune diseases. Therefore, clarifying how negative immune checkpoints function and the mechanisms involved can provide a new idea for the clinical treatment of diseases.
This Research Topic will focus on the mechanisms underlying the role of negative immune checkpoints in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis, such as identifying possible target cells and molecular pathways and finding possible negative immune checkpoint agonists. We hope that this topic will provide clinicians with cutting-edge insights into the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases, explore the mechanisms of negative immune checkpoints in treating autoimmune diseases, provide molecules that may alleviate the symptoms, and ultimately facilitate the clinical treatment of autoimmune diseases.
