Virtual reality (VR) technology has the potential to revolutionize the way medical professionals diagnose and treat patients. The use of VR in the medical field is a rapidly growing area of research, with potential applications ranging from surgical training and rehabilitation to pain management and psychological therapy. However, several barriers still need to be overcome for VR to be widely adopted in medicine. At this exciting juncture in the development of VR technology, we invite researchers to submit papers exploring the barriers to using cutting-edge immersive VR for medical applications.
In this call for papers, we are looking for research that addresses barriers to using VR in the medical field and presents new and innovative ideas to overcome them.
We welcome the submission of manuscripts on the idea of the following topics, as well as other related ideas:
• A consensus on a glossary of terms related to the extended reality can help to establish a common language and understanding within the field.
• How low-cost VR technology has the potential to make VR more accessible to medical institutions, organizations, and individuals at home.
• How to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and other partners (government, nonprofit organizations, etc.).
• A consensus on the best co-constructive research methods for developing and evaluating new VR interventions.
• Example of a community of practice that successfully navigates VR-related knowledge exchange across society and science.
• Ethical considerations and potential risks associated with the use of VR in medicine.
• How to use immersive virtual reality to increase motivation and treatment plan implementation.
• Each of the above points could be developed into a standalone manuscript.
