Herbicides must overcome biological and environmental barriers to control a target plant. Herbicides can enter a plant through roots, shoots, stems, foliage, or buds. To be effective, systemic herbicides must: 1) adequately contact plants; 2) be absorbed by plants; 3) move within the plants to the site of action without being deactivated; and 4) reach toxic levels at the site of action. The herbicide behavior in the plant is critical to the efficiency of weed control, herbicide selectivity to agricultural crops, and the mechanism (target/non-target site) of resistance.
This Research Topic aims to publish papers in the area of herbicide efficacy, environmental impacts on herbicide performance, and herbicide spray technology. We welcome the following subtopics, but not limited to:
- Absorption, translocation, and metabolism of herbicides in plants
- Herbicide selectivity to crops
- Weed chemical control
- Efficacy of contact and systemic herbicides
- Tank mixing of herbicides
- Environmental Impacts on Herbicide Performance
- Physiological factors affecting Herbicide Performance
- Effect of climate change on herbicide efficacy
- Role of adjuvant in herbicide efficacy
- Fate of herbicide in plants
- Role of microbial diversity on the performance of soil uptake herbicide.
