In recent years, namely, since the 2016 United Nations Climate Change Conference and numerous other environmental initiatives, the attention of authorities worldwide has focused on ecological concerns. Related problems are widely acknowledged on different fora and practical activities leading to considerate energy generation were promoted including conservation and creation of relevant measures for environmental protection.
Nonetheless, the recent challenging political situation including the war in Ukraine and Russia has changed the focus and forced the inhabitants to look again for cheaper energy sources. These traditional technologies, however, somewhat ignore environmental concerns. This collection of scientific papers focuses on relevant aspects of the relationship between energy, the environment, the economy, and economic policy in the current societal context.
This collection concentrates on the ongoing and recently intensified environmental problems that have been aggravated by the unstable political situation in Ukraine and Russia. Its impact on finance and the economy has initiated an energy crisis and increased inflation. The hitherto unprecedented unrest is spreading across all regions and harming global energy and environmental safety. In contrast, just a few years ago, environmental goals, economic stability, and energy safety were stated in intensively proclaimed official resolutions summed up in the Green Deal and other EU directives. The main aim of this article collection is to contribute to scholarly debate on current issues of energy, economics, and the environment. The invited papers can use diverse methodological approaches employing both qualitative and quantitative methods of scientific inquiry anchored in the fundamental theoretical background of relevant disciplines.
The current Research Topic aims to cover promising, recent, and novel research trends in changes in energy generation and its impact on the economy and environment. Areas to be covered in this Research Topic may include, but are not limited to:
• Economic implications of political unrest and inflationary pressures
• Development of the energy crisis and challenges for new technology
• Environmental initiatives and solutions for energy shortages
• Practical activities taming the social impact of inflation and rising energy prices
