The Internet of Things (IoT) is perceived as the main enabler for a wide range of applications for smart cities, agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and so forth, with many sensors, devices, and actuators embedded into our everyday life, working with each other seamlessly. The recent advances in wireless communication, lightweight cryptography, machine learning, edge computing, cybersecurity, and middleware have accelerated the adoption of IoT in many application areas. We are seeing many innovative and novel IoT applications being deployed into the real-world.
This Research Topic aims to collate experiences and insights drawn from the real-world deployment of IoT applications, as the problems and mitigation strategies identified to fill the gaps between lab prototypes and real-world deployments will be valuable to the researchers and practitioners. It is recognized that deployment of IoT applications that integrate many of these advanced technology offerings is not an easy task and novel architectural deployment of IoT applications combining edge computing, machine learning, security, communication, and cloud would be interesting.
We invite leading scientists from all over the world who have experience in deploying IoT applications in the field or developing specific technology (cybersecurity, AI, machine learning, edge computing, wireless networks) to enable IoT deployment in a real-world setting to report their recent results and share their deployment experience.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- IoT and its application in smart health, urban mobility, smart manufacturing, environment monitoring, smart home, smart building, and so forth
- Cybersecurity for IoT applications
- Novel deployment architecture of IoT applications
- Machine learning for IoT applications
- Deploying edge intelligence in IoT applications
- Novel integration of AI, edge, and cloud for IoT applications
- New applications of IoT
- Deployment experience of IoT applications
- Interoperability between IoT sensors, actuators, and applications
- Communication protocol for IoT applications
- Optimization of IoT applications
