The introduction of video-endoscopic and robotic surgery has led to widespread “technological orientation” of operative medicine. Since these procedures are highly reliant on the range of technical equipment available, both the medical technology industry and the surgeons themselves are called upon to drive forward technical innovations. Rapid dissemination of these technical innovations can improve surgical practices and outcome. It is therefore crucial that surgeons pass on their knowledge and experiences of innovative surgical techniques as early as possible to their colleagues. We therefore call upon all surgeons who can report on important technical innovations to submit articles to this Research Topic in Frontiers in Surgery. These can report on details of surgical procedures along the lines of “How I do it?”
