It has been demonstrated that hormones have a profound impact on the regulation of glucose and lipid homeostasis. The use of hormone-based therapies has proven to be effective in preventing or slowing down the progression of metabolic diseases, especially in diabetes, obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and others. Nonetheless, further research is needed to understand the specific roles hormones play in the synthesis and consumption of sugars and lipids, as well as the underlying mechanisms.
In this Research Topic, we will present and discuss hormones and their functions in sugar and lipid metabolism, as well as investigate their therapeutic potential in the treatment of metabolic diseases with an emphasis on diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
