In recent decades, emerging and re-emerging respiratory RNA viruses such as severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and SARS-CoV-2, Influenza virus, non-polio enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have caused a significant global health crisis. The significance of respiratory RNA virus in human health, together with the limited existing intervention strategies to combat virus infection, makes it extremely urgent to better understand the biology of these viruses and to develop effective countermeasures to prevent them from infecting humans.
The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a firm base for the most recent discoveries in respiratory RNA virus research, including the molecular and structural biology of the virus, virus-host interactions, viral pathogenesis, antiviral strategies, and vaccine development.
This Research Topic will accept all article types including but not limited to Original Research article, Case Report, Review, Mini-review, Perspective, Opinion, Hypothesis and Theory. Please mind the article type limitation of Virology and Viral Immunology sections and choose a proper one when submitting. This Research Topic aims to present an up-to-date understanding of respiratory RNA virus infection and viral immune evasion mechanisms for host antiviral immunity that include but are not limited to the following topics:
1. Pathogenesis of viral infections and diseases
2. Virus-host interactome
3. Animal and organoid models to study respiratory RNA virus infection
4. Design, biochemical, and antiviral evaluations
