Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly transmissible and virulent human-infecting coronavirus that emerged in late December 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, causing a respiratory disease called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The crisis caused by COVID-19 has massively impacted global public health and caused widespread disruption to daily life, which rapidly called scientists and public health officials across the globe to rapidly improve our knowledge about this devastating illness, shedding light on its management and control, and spawned the development of new countermeasures in order to break the SARS-CoV-2 dissemination.
We hope that through this Research Topic, we can contribute to the advancement of knowledge related to SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19. In this Research Topic, we aim to welcome the submission of high-quality articles that can fil knowledge gaps in SARS-CoV-2 biology.
We welcome submissions of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Opinion, Perspective and Correspondence focusing on the following points:
- Epidemiology and genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2;
- Reverse genetics studies to identify molecular markers of virulence and transmissibility;
- Host genetics markers of susceptibility and resistance to infection;
- Immunity and immune response to SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 vaccines;
- Development of in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, and alternative models for studying SARS-CoV-2;
- SARS-CoV-2 replication mechanisms through host–virus interactions;
- Transmission and pathogenesis mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2
- SARS-CoV-2 infection in several different animal species;
- Immunity and immune response to SARS-CoV-2,
- Development of novel tests for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 and their related emerging variants;
-Formulations to improve the safety and efficacy of vaccines and antivirals;
