When malignant tumors metastasize to bone, patients will have a series of bone-related events such as pain, hypercalcemia, movement disorders, spinal cord compression, and pathological fractures, which seriously affect the quality of life of patients. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the mechanism of bone metastases and understand the new progress in the diagnosis and treatment of bone metastases for prolonging the survival time of patients and improving the therapeutic effect. However, patients with bone metastases are in the end stage of the tumor and have a poor prognosis, there is no standard and unified treatment plan. Imaging is currently the main method for diagnosing bone metastases, but hematologic markers also have a bright future. In the treatment of bone metastases, bisphosphonates, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, analgesia therapy, immunotherapy, and other methods can achieve a better prognosis as far as possible. Of course, we still need to clarify the role of surgery in the comprehensive treatment of bone metastases.
In this Research Topic, we aim to publish articles focusing on recent advances in the treatments for patients with bone metastases. We are looking forward to hearing about the establishment of bone metastases model, the formation mechanism of bone metastases microenvironment, pain management of bone metastases, minimally invasive surgical treatment of bone metastases, application of radioactive particle implantation, and application of 3D printing technology in the surgical treatment of bone metastases. We expect more clinical studies to open up new avenues for the treatment of patients with bone metastases. Any Original Research and Review focusing on the following aspects are welcome:
• Mechanism of bone metastases
• Early diagnosis and prognostic monitoring of bone metastases
• Surgical treatment of bone metastases
• Radiotherapy of bone metastases
• Novel agents or regimens for bone metastases, including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy
Please note: manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this section and will not be accepted as part of this Research Topic.
