The centrality of RNA in the flow of information from the genome is the basis of the main dogma of
cell biology. However, rules and roles governing RNA function have been dramatically expanded in the last decade with the discovery of pervasive transcription of eukaryotic genomes and also with the growing importance of the non-coding genomic output. An increasing number of research are nowadays focusing on inter-kingdom communication and non-coding RNAs and on the role of these molecules in health and disease. Many studies explored the gene expression regulation of gut microbiota by microRNAs and the differential expression of long non-coding RNAs in different conditions. Other studies focused on the role of pathogens and viruses in host-guest interactions. Microvesicles also have been hypothesized to be involved in these communication mechanisms.
Therefore, the present Research Topic will be aimed at discussing the state-of-the-art researches in these sectors.
