Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that include increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol. Any component of metabolic syndrome may increase the risks of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
Metabolic syndrome is closely linked to obesity and insulin resistance, and insulin resistance may further worsen hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia. Chronic inflammation in obesity plays a critical role in atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Pathways that are involved in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism in obesity with insulin resistance have been actively studied but not yet completely understood.
This Research Topic is aimed at further understanding the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism and its interaction with inflammation in obesity, which can be modified by genetics, diet, physical activities, and environmental factors.
We welcome submissions including original research articles, review articles, as well as meta-analyses related to but not limited to the following sub-topics:
• Interdisciplinary and translational research and clinical application of body weight management, insulin action, and dyslipidemia.
• Understanding the interaction between inflammation and glucose/lipid metabolism, and its contribution to metabolic disorders such as fatty liver and atherosclerosis.
• Advances in the technology for visualization of pathology changes in the artery wall.
Even though abstract submission is not mandatory, we encourage all interested researchers to submit an abstract before submitting their manuscript. Abstracts do not have to coincide with the final version of the manuscripts.
